The History of New York
From OSWIKI
The history of New York City began with the Wappinger, a subdivision of the Algonquian-speaking Lenape, who inhabited Manhattan prior to the arrival of Giovanni da Verrazzano. Bone Shadows are rumored to have always lived in New York state, side by side with the Indian tribes.
1524
The arrival of Giovanni da Verrazzano.
1624
New York was founded. The first Prince, Geoffery Dunning, took Praxis over the Dutch settlement then called New Amsterdam. Under his help, Kindred firmly established a place for themselves in New York. Shifter-Kindred Relations were chaotic, many lives were lost to simple territory disputes. This mutual hatred rages on for more than one hundred years.
1664
The city was renamed to New York by the English.
1728
St. Anthony's Church founded.
1775
The Revolutionary War began. The longest-lived prince in New York's history was killed during the war. A young Ventrue by the name of Cherise Abernathy took his place, holding it for 15 short years. Blood Talons increase in number during the war, drawn to the violence and blood shed. During this time, Kindred and Shifters forget their differences as they are faced with war. This peace of convenience lasted for 4 decades.
1790
New York no longer served as the capital of the United States. A well known businesswoman, Maurine Conroy, took over as prince. She served for only 2 years before falling prey to what was claimed to be the first hunter attack on a Prince of New York. The city was scoured for the supposed hunter, dozens of mortals were killed in New York's witch hunt.
1792
Ellen Graham took Conroy's place, holding the position for the next 27 years. Women were finalized as successful leaders in the eyes of New York Kindred, as the last female prince left in 1819.
1819
Graham was succeeded by Schieme Goldman, New York's first unaligned prince. Goldman never joined a Covenant and indicated he could only be impartial by staying unaligned. He reigned for 30 years and was well liked. During Goldman's reign a Non-Agression Pact was created between Uratha and Kindred.
1848
The Non-Agression Pact was broken by a young Uratha, killing a ghoul and her Kindred after finding out his lover belonged to a KIndred. The pact would not be re-established.
1849
Just prior to the Civil War, a black Prince, Jacob Stone, was for the first time on the throne of New York. Kindred set in their ways take problem with the Prince, taking nearly 2 years for him to be fully accepted into the role. Once settled, he became famous as one of the most forward thinking Princes in New York's history. As the turn of the century came, he found multiple ways to keep Kindred hidden and in control. The Invictus and Lancea Sanctum grew healthily during this time.
1898
Five Boroughs were consolidated. Around the turn of the century The Iron Masters grow significantly in numbers. Stone established New York's first barony system, assigning trusted members to govern over different parts of the city.
1928
Albert Johanes followed his sire into the role of prince. More than 150 years embraced, the Kindred seemed a wise choice to succeed his sire. The city remained stable and peaceful for Kindred during some of the roughest years of American life. The Circle of the Crone grew during this peaceful time, many cults followed creation over the next 5 decades.
1948
Jack Reece, a former mafia boss, appeared on the scene. Rumored to have been embraced a scant ten years, he seemed to sail into power. While outspoken and demanding, his decisions seemed well thought out and wiser than his years. The city welcomes the assertive leader and assumed his days in the mafia groomed him for the role. Reece disassembled the Barony system and reverted control over domain entirely to the Prince and no one else. It would not be re-established for some time.
In the late 1970's rumors circulated that Reece was nothing more than a puppet prince, having been puppeted by his sire, Janet Murphy and his grandsire, James Murphy. His approval dropped drastically and over the next decade it became obvious his days as prince were numbered. Ordo Dracul grew over this time. Shifters and Kindred fought greatly during this time, there was much bloodshed, but little death.
1988
After 12 years gaining power in both the city and the Invictus, Trevor Alden took Praxis from his predecessor, supported by his large Covenant. The Carthian Movement shrank greatly over this time. Early in his reign, he penned a Non-agression pact with Uratha that was never signed by the Uratha of New York.
1993
A serial killer by the name of Joel Rifkin was discovered by a local Kindred. Taking advantage of the situation, the Kindred planted information on 9 additional murders committed by Kindred. This brought Rifkin's total number up to 17. Rifkin confessed to all 17 murders.
2004
In January of 2004, Alden, still angered by the refusal of the Uratha to agree on the Non-Agression Pact, decided to assert his standing control over NYC and extend his rule to the shifter population. The much criticized proclamation about including the other shifters fell on nearly deaf ears; less than half the Kindred of New York agreed to pursue his edict. Alden pushed the issue, warning Kindred of the potential risks, referring to the shifters as "mad dogs". Eventually he took it directly to a group of shifters. When they refused to fall in line small fights begun happening all over the five boroughs. Rumors of the Prince being a target for assassination or of others taking Praxis spread. On July 5th, 2004, Alden left to negotiate alone with a shifter who claimed to speak for the others in the city. He never returned.
After Alden's disappearance, the young Seneschal stepped up to take his place. With a small measure of support, Jorge Rivera took Praxis. Rivera, a former member of a relatively secret team, organized by Aldo prior to his role as Senescal, called in the other four members of his former team to serve as Primogen and his Seneschal. Their names were: Vicente Alvarez, Jason Morris, Ellen Truvio and Azrael Alexeia.
2008
Rivera's support waned over the next four years. The Invictus publicly announced they objected to his status in fall of 2008. Worn and tired of a role he never asked for, Rivera stepped down. Again, a Senescal took his place, this time someone with experience as Prince, Azrael Alexeia.
Over the course of the next year Alexeia made changes to the city. He formalized a section of North Queens to serve as the long overdue Circle of the Crone domain. He re-stablished a barony system, choosing five Kindred to serve as the heads of each borough, giving them the right to allow or refuse permission of a Kindred to reside in the borough they controlled.
