Himeru Niwa
From OSWIKI
Himeru Niwa, literally meaning "secret garden", is a small mystical feeling herb store in Little Tokyo. The shop has an occult feel to it, run by a single family, an older Japanese woman and her daughter. One of the two will always be there to run the place, the younger often with her infant daughter. They claim to be three generations of women raised to in the "old ways" of herbalism and medicines. Customers are welcomed inside to ask for medicines for what ails them or spiritual remedies for anything from more energy to more sexual prowess. They will be pointed to a cure or herbs or other natural ground materials for anything they ask. Sometimes these cures are effective and sometimes they are no more than Japanese myths, wives-tales or old fashioned beliefs.
The store itself is off of a small stone alley, only somewhat visible from the street. A sign emblazoned "Himeru Niwa" is the only thing on the actual street indicating where the shop lays. The alley is lined on both sides with hanging plants and planters, full of tall, strong, healthy looking plants. As you approach the store, dried herbs hang from lines and rafters. Inside shelves full of jars of ground substances line the walls, only a small counter exists to one side in the back to pay for the items. The shop keeps are more likely to be found sitting at a small table laid out for tea. The center of the store contains potted herbs for sale, often taken from their supply or from the wild.
