Description Basics

We seem to be having some issues with the uniformity of descriptions, and it confuses new people. First, the bot does not accept quote marks, so rather than typing 5'10", just type 5'10. We all get it, you'll only succeed in messing up the description if you type the "

Also, the script itself does not accept semi-colons, it will create { } marks around whatever word ends with a semi-colon. While it is grammatically correct, the script is a bit buggy so just keep it to simple sentences.

Next, the bot reports your name in your description so don't type it out. It looks dumb to have "Bob bob is 5' tall and..."

Certain OOC information about your character needs to be in the description. We want these at the end in parenthesis. Feel free to write them out if you have room, but please put all this all in parenthesis to separate it from the rest.

List it like this:
( Striking Looks 4, Primal Urge 3 )

or

( SL 4, PU 3 )

And not like this:
SL 4, Primal 3
SL +2, PU

The script automatically creates a link to your wiki page, in the format of http://wiki.original-sin.net/Botnick

How To Set Your Character Description

The easiest way to set your description is to type: !deschelp in a channel with Canaille and the bot will instruct you as how to set it.

When you type that command it gives you this text.

Commands:
!desc <description> adds a description for your current nick to the bot.
!deldesc removes description of your current nick from the bot.
!deschelp shows you this help.
? <nick> shows the description of <nick>.
!me shows the description for your current nick.

So, to set a description, in a game channel, you type !desc is a tall, handsome man.

and the bot will respond with: desc has been added.
You may then type: !me or ? <nick> to see your description.

Character Description Requirements For everyone

-Striking Looks
-Fame unless you feel the character's fame isn't widely enough known
-Any other obvious physical features (Giant, some flaw, scars, etc).
-You need to state an ethnicity or race for your character, otherwise they will be assumed to be generic American. This can include any noticeable accents.

Character Description Requirements For Kindred

-Humanity score (This limits your social interactions with mortals, and they subtly notice that you're inhuman because of this, so this is the way they find out. If you think someone is abusing it, see an ST)

-Blood Potency (For Predator's Taint; again, if you suspect abuse, contact an ST) unless the character has Obfuscate 2. Then simply list Obfuscate 2, and put their Blood Potency score on their wiki entry.

-Any permanently-on powers (Protean 1 does not need it as that affects yourself only, but Obfuscate 2 is required).

-Nosferatu's flaw must be made obvious in the description. An ST can ask you to be more specific in doing this. Also, this is a flaw, if it is written in such a way that it could be construed as a positive thing, an ST probably will ask you to rewrite it.

-Status ratings do not need to be listed in a description, they are put on the character's wiki page.

Character Description Requirements For Uratha and Wolf-Blooded

Uratha must put Primal Urge and their score in their description, since there is a penalty to social interactions with non-Wolf-Blooded mortals determined by that score, and this allows them to know ooc that they sense each other.

Merits that affect others, such as Animal Magnetism, need to be listed.

These things also need to be listed in all other forms, not just the human form. Non-human forms require a Size listing so people understand more specifically the difference in sizes between animals and people.

There are no other special requirements for Wolf-Blooded.

Wolf-Blooded cannot be detected in the same way as Uratha. An Uratha (or Vampire with Heightened Senses: smell) using scents will notice a Wolf-Blooded is slightly different than other mortals, but nothing that is definite. A Wolf-Blooded simply smells "better" and "more attractive" than "regular" mortals. If you have some other special ability that can sense Wolf-Blooded, then you can ask the person if they are Wolf-Blooded or not, or more preferably, ask an ST.

Wolf-Blooded characters with 4 or 5 dots in that merit can always and automatically detect Werewolves, though, due to the powers of the merit Unseen Sense that they get for free as part of the Wolf-Blooded 4 merit, the same way they can automatically detect spirit activity in the area around them.

Character Description Requirements for Changing Breeds

Shifters must put Feral Heart and their score in their description, for the same reasons as Uratha above.

Also, the character's Primary Respect is required since it has a slight supernatural effect.

Powers and merits that affect others that are always on, for example Predator's Bearing, Sweet-Voiced Fiend or Sexual Dimorphism.

These things also need to be listed in all other forms, not just the human form. Non-human forms require a Size listing so people understand more specifically the difference in sizes between animals and people.

Character Description Requirements for Possessed

Possessed characters must put the word Host in their description. This allows other Possessed to know ooc that they recognize another with their Unseen Sense benefit.

Any Innate Vestments that affect others, such as Prurient Perfume, need to be listed since they are considered always active.

Accepted Acronyms

IRC has a limited line length, and our description script requires us to follow this limit. We could make it work differently, but we prefer the flexibility we have at this juncture. So there are a few accepted ways of shortening things, listed below

-BP, PU, FH, etc for the supernatural advantages.
-Obf for Obfuscate.
-Hum for Humanity.
-SL for Striking Looks.

Any other Acronyms should give enough information. If it's not possible for space reasons (things like Sweet-Voiced Fiend are unnecessarily long), then SVF and whatever else can be listed on IRC and the full word written out on the description that's on the wiki.
