Vampire Creation Rules Allowed Clans and Covenants All 5 clans and 5 player covenants (Circle of the Crone, Invictus, Ordo Dracul, Lancea Sanctum and Carthian) are open at this time. Some bloodlines are accepted at creation as a restricted item. You may also choose to work toward a bloodline in character. The most proliferate covenants at this time are Invictus and Circle of the Crone. The next most popular Lancea Sanctum and Ordo Dracul with Carthians being quite scarce. Please keep this in mind when writing a character. (more information on clans and covenants)
Status Characters cannot start with more than 2 dots in Clan or Covenant Status, and cannot start with any dots in City Status (New York). If you purchase City Status (New York) at any rating, it means you have introduced yourself to the Prince at some point and were Acknowledged and this needs to be in your background and approved. If you do not take any dots in City Status (New York) it means you are not yet Acknowledged and must introduce yourself in character after approval. To do this, you will need to arrange a meeting with the Prince. After playing for 1 week, you can assume some random Kindred would give your character the information to contact the Prince, if an active PC has not done so already. At that point you may note Elena to schedule a meeting to play out. If you do not wish to do this, or want your character to skirt the customs, that is fine, you do not *have* to meet the Prince. Just remember there are always consequences for every action.
Starting Experience All Vampire characters start out with an additional 35 experience points. You can divide that xp up any way you like with a few exceptions. Disciplines Characters must place 2 of the initial 3 dots for Disciplines in their Parent Clan Disciplines. This means if you take Blood Potency with merit dots, you still cannot place all 3 Discipline dots in a Bloodline-specific Discipline that is not shared with the parent Clan. Also, if you take a Clan Unique Discipline that is not of your Clan (for example, a Nosferatu who wants a dot of Majesty), you must take the Mentor merit at 2 dots higher than what you intend to take, and it must be done with the same type of dots (i.e., if you want to use an Initial Discipline Dot to buy the other Discipline, then you must take Mentor 3 with Initial Merit dots). So, 1 dot would require Mentor 3, 2 dots would require Mentor 4, and 3 dots would require Mentor 5. To go higher requires learning the Discipline in-game from someone of that clan. If you wish to say your character gained it by Diablerie, then that is a Restricted item for your sheet and requires special approval, and will require lowering Humanity and will limit increasing it further in game. For Reference, the Clan Unique Disciplines are: Daeva - Majesty, Gangrel - Protean, Mekhet - Auspex, Nosferatu - Nightmare, Ventrue - Dominate Character Age You may write characters at any age you like with a few exceptions. * Characters Embraced under 5 years or over 100 years old are considered restricted. * You must buy Blood Potency as appropriate to your character's age. * You must write an acceptable background based on your character's age. * We do not approve characters who were abandoned and "learned on their own" or similar backgrounds. Characters should have a period of time with their sire learning Kindred society that is realistic for Kindred characters (5 years is an extreme minimum for this). Note: We allow a Kindred to gain one level of Blood Potency free in game, one time only, as a long term character bonus. You must write your character to have their embrace date be, at minimum, six months after approval. For example, at approval the Kindred is 49 years and six months embraced. This will not happen again in six months, this is one time only and may never be repeated with the same character. You may write it to happen later than 6 months if you wish, but 6 months is the soonest we allow the free increase. Character Background All characters are required to write a short background regardless of age. The minimum requirement for characters under fifty is: one paragraph for mortal life, one paragraph about their Embrace and time with their Sire, and one paragraph for your character's post-Embrace years. Characters over fifty, however, have a different standard for writing. You must write one paragraph for your mortal life, one paragraph about their Embrace and time with their Sire, one paragraph for their post-Embrace years under fifty AND one paragraph per decade of your characters life over fifty. Ex: Melinda is 80 years old. She must write a 5 paragraph background; one for mortal life, one for her embraced years under 50, one for 50-60, one for 60-70 and one 70-80.
