Hunter the Vigil Creation Rules
Approved Books We allow material from Hunter: the Vigil, Witch Finders (not the Gifted merit), Spirit Slayers, Night Stalkers, Compacts & Conspiracies, and Slashers (but not VASCU). Note that PCs that take Slasher merits are likely on the road to becoming one.
Professions There are a few restrictions on Professions:* Hitman is restricted * Cop and Detective must be a former officer or can be a current security guard. No currently active police/law enforcement will be approved.
Tiers There are no restrictions on Tiers at this time. All Compacts and Conspiracies from the corebook are allowed. Those from other sourcebooks are restricted.
Character Background All characters are required to write a short background regardless of age. The minimum requirement for characters is one paragraph for life before the Vigil, and at least one paragraph detailing their entrance into the Vigil, and one paragraph about their life after becoming a Hunter. For more information on character backgrounds, please read the: ( Character Background Page )
Bans and Restrictions Very few things are going to be banned or restricted, but several aspects of the game have been edited slightly to work better in general or with this setting. You can see a complete list of those changes here. Restricted: Status in a Tier 2 Compact or Tier 3 Conspiracy is limited to maximum of 3 dots at creation, and it can be bought higher once in game.
Practical Experience We do not use the rules for Practical Experience.
Tactics Tactics are allowed, and will be approved for existing cells to purchase with XP with ST approval. We do not allow creation of new tactics, but alteration of existing tactics is allowed.
The Code Characters may not begin with Code alterations to their morality, they must be taken in game. The social penalty to having a Code alteration does not need to be publicized (that is, it does not need to be in a description nor informed to others you are RPing with). However, it does need to be listed in any dice rolls made, and should be a "quirk" of the character's roleplay interaction with other characters.
Can my character become a Vigil hunter after approval? Yes, with some conditions. Joining a Compact requires a mentor to induct you into the group (either in game or an NPC bought with the merit). It is possible to do this to get into some of the Conspiracies, but most require some pre-existing condition that can't be replicated in game (such as family background for The Lucifuge). Otherwise, with ST approval, you would pick the appropriate Profession, take a free Asset Specialty, and anything beyond that can be bought with Experience Points.
